In 1820 the Venus de Milo, a marble statue of a half-naked goddess, was discovered on the island of Melos (Milos in modern Greek).  The statue was made around 100 BC in the Cyclades. This mysterious goddess might represent Aphrodite or Amphitrite. This statue can be admired in the Louvre museum in Paris (France).
